Smart Grids – An Overview

Abstract

As the world electricity grid transitions from the traditional coal-fired central power system into renewable energy integrated electricity network with central and distributed topologies, the concept of smart grid has emerged. Smart grid enables the new energy mix in electricity generation, novel power transmission and distribution topologies, next-generation communication technology and control designs, and deep and extensive customers’ participation in electricity production, consumption, demand response, and trading. This presentation gives an overview of the development of smart grid and contemporary technologies required to enable the transition from the traditional power grids into the future renewable-energy-integrated smart grid.

Speaker’s Biography

Samson S. Yu, 本科毕业于中国地质大学，于2014年与2018年在西澳大学电气工程系分别取得硕士学位与博士学位。2011年至2012年，担任电子设计和测试工程师；2017年至2019年在西澳大学任博士后研究员；2019年8月，担任澳大利亚墨尔本迪肯大学的助理教授；2022年起，担任澳大利亚墨尔本迪肯大学的高级讲师。主要研究方向为电力系统与可再生能源工程、应用电子与控制、系统工程。
